Discussing the new ductwork

Every now and then I worry about being a woman… Sure, there are real creepers out there, but that’s not what I’m talking about. What I’m talking about is the likelihood that I’m being taken advantage of because of my lack of technical knowledge traditionally held by men! For example, when I’m upsold a full set of brand new tires because one of mine has a little leak. Or the time I shelled out $2000 in “critical” repairs for my car. Apparently, that included battery replacement and rotating my tires. Or even the afternoon my own father had to get involved to save me from a shady HVAC company, selling me recycled heating and cooling supplies! I’m guessing that one needs more explanation. Well, I was doing some renovation on a few rooms in the house, when the company realized that our indoor ventilation method could really do with an upgrade. Since they were already working on the house, I contacted the heating and cooling specialist they suggested. We talked about current A/C and heating equipment, ductwork, and replacement of the air intake handler. Everything seemed fine, until the afternoon that all my newly acquired Heating, Ventilation, and A/C equipment was being delivered. My father had come over to visit, and was asking polite but direct questions and checking out all of the big machinery in the yard. For a moment, he hesitated, but then he turned on the technicians, demanding the HVAC equipment be taken away. He shouted at the ventilation technicians to take back their used heating and cooling implements. My father, red with anger, said they better not show their faces again until they had the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C equipment that we’d agreed upon, in mint condition! I was lucky he, at least, knew better.
