If you enjoy the way that natural light looks in your house, as opposed to artificial lights, you might agree with my notion that skylights are the best way to light up your living space. In our house, we actually them in every room, with the exception of our big walk-in closet. The nice thing is that every day each of us wake up with the rising sun, and we basically do not need our ceiling lights until the night, however even after that I like candles & warm stand-up lamps. The only potential negative I could see with relying on skylights is that periodically the mid-day sun can actually heat up our house. For us, it is no big deal, however some people turn on their air conditioner as soon as the temperature hits 71 degrees. In our case this is unnecessary. Our temperature control is usually set to 69 degrees, whether it is Summer or winter. Occasionally both of us just turn the Heating & A/C system off completely & open up all the windows & doors. Both of us feel as if nature is the climate control system that god made for the two of us, so why not take advantage of that divine heating & cooling system? Of course periodically it gets a bit extreme so after that I usually just let our Heating & A/C system kick in. Even our dogs are not the biggest fans of excessive artificial indoor air pollen levels manipulation. Both of us can tell by their facial expressions. Usually when both of us turn on our gas furnace, they start to pant a bit. I recognize it might also be the hum of the machinery that makes them nervous.
